John F. “Cakey” Morici, 94, formerly of North Jefferson Street passed away the afternoon of February 7, 2026 at Quality of Life Services.
John was born December 22, 1931 in New Castle. He was the son of the late Antonio and Mary (Gebbia) Morici. John was married to the former Maryann Cambroto. They were married for 48 years. She survives him at home. John attended New Castle High School and was a long standing member of Holy Spirit Parish-St. Vitus, where he served as an usher for decades. He also worked at the St. Vitus festival making pizza fritta for many years.
Mr. Morici retired as a heavy equipment operator with the City of New Castle. John continued working with Noga Funeral Home, Inc. for 38 years. John loved to garden and grow his garlic. He used to make wine with his father and traveled to Italy with him to visit family. John was a good carpenter and handyman. He enjoyed Italian Opera, especially Andrea Bocelli. John loved to get his morning coffee with friends at McDonalds in Shenango Twp. He loved his dog Deedee very much. Most of all, he was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Maryann, John is survived by his son James (Shannon) Dellaverson of New Castle; daughter, Janice Hall of Columbus, OH; Karen, who was like a daughter to him, (Jimmy) Verterano, brother, Joseph (Paula) Morici of Butler; two sisters, Geraldine Morici of Gibsonia, PA, and Rosina (Jim) Mowry of New Castle; son-in-law, John R. D’Altorio Sr. of Boardman, OH; four grandchildren, Anthony D’Altorio, Ciara (Brian) D’Altorio Barth, Vinny (Jordan) D’Altorio, Gina (Adrian) Crabtree; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Katie, and Ryder Crabtree, Caleb and Luciano Barth, and Mia Deborah and Beck D’Altorio; and multiple loving nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Anthony Morici; daughter, Deborah D’Altorio; two brothers, Samuel Morici and Anthony Morici; and his sister, Frances Maher; nephew, Matthew Morici; and son-in-law, Gene Hall
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 10 a.m. to noon, a procession will leave following visitation for a Mass of Christian burial at Holy Spirit Parish-St. Vitus Church at 12:30 p.m. Rev. Aaron Kriss, parochial vicar will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vitus Cemetery.
