Dimitrios Papazekos Obituary

It is with great sadness, but with hope in the resurrection, that we announce the passing into the next life of our beloved brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Dimitrios “Jimmy” K. Papazekos, 95, of Neshannock Township on the evening of February 6, 2026 at his residence, with his family by his side.

Dimitrios was born March 20, 1930 in Granitsa, Greece. He was the son of the late Konstantinos and Maria (Katsadas) Papazekos. He was married to the late Theodora (Tsigas) Papazekos who after 67 wonderful years of marriage, preceded him in death on February 26, 2018.

Having emigrated from a small village in Greece, he truly lived the “American Dream,” being self-employed for over 45 years in the restaurant business as the heart and soul of Jimmy’s Hot Dog Shop. His work ethic was so strong that not only did he teach his children and grandchildren the meaning of working hard, but many former employees to this day share stories of their first job with Jim being the reason they are successful today. Many still smile remembering one of his famous Greek sayings to keep everyone moving: “catch the birds” a playful way of telling you to “stay sharp, stay busy, and don’t waste time.”

Dimitrios was devout in his Greek Orthodox Faith and an active member of St George Greek Orthodox Church. He truly lived his faith in his daily life, always kind and generous to others and eager to help anyone in need.

Above all, Dimitrios’ main focus in life was his family and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with them. He is survived by his two daughters, Maria Babalis and Georgia (John) Christou; son, Konstantinos (Aristea) Papazekos; two sisters Helen (Konstantinos) Foukas and Irene Paliouras; seven grandchildren Alexandra and Vaggelis (Fotini) Babalis, Dimitri (Komila) and John Papazekos, Athena (Panagiotis) Matthaiou, Argirios (Vicky) Christou, Jamie (Nick) Ligerakis; his ten great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Dimitrios was also preceded in death by his siblings, Margarita, Paraskevi, Mihalis and Vasilios, his brother-in-law Konstantinos and his son-in-law Vasilios.

In accordance with his wishes, the funeral service will be held privately on Saturday at the St. Elias Greek Orthodox Monastery in Saxonburg, PA. Burial will be in the Monastery Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be offered to St George Greek Orthodox Church, New Castle, PA.
